Feel good festival is a family-friendly festival with the aim of bringing together local people to share their expertise and showcase what they have to offer for health and well-being through fun activities, classes, stalls, workshops and therapies.
The festival was set up by Jessie Hope, a Community Mental Health nurse who is passionate about helping those suffering from mental health issues, and just wants to make people feel better in general. Jessie is keen to show case Cumbrian practitioners and share forms of holistic healing with a mission to make the nation feel good.
I’m a Mental Health Nurse with 18 years’ experience and currently work part-time as a CPN (Community Mental Health Nurse) in Carlisle. I spent 10 years working in New Zealand as a nurse working in therapeutic communities, rehab recovery and forensics. I returned to my home county of Cumbria 3 years ago and continued my nursing career. I realised that the nature of statutory services can be very limiting and there is a wider more holistic approach that we can take in maintaining mental health and wellbeing.
Why feel good started
Feel Good started to do just that, support people to “Feel Good”, by bringing together local practitioners, therapists and independent health and wellbeing traders to offer a family-friendly holistic and accessible weekend of wellbeing.
What is feel good festival
The schedule is jam-packed with yoga, Pilates, Qi Gong, and dance classes. We also have sound therapy, Gong immersion, health practitioners, trade stands, talks and workshops. As the sun goes down, we have evening entertainment, live music, Hula hoop performances and can be enjoyed alongside a nice glass of wine from the Bar and some delicious food. The event is set in the beautiful and tranquil setting of Kirklinton Hall.
Why people love Feel Good Festival
Ultimately, because it makes them “Feel Good”. The festival brings together like-minded people to share kindness compassion and all things wellbeing. Our aim has been to offer a variety of wellbeing related activities for the whole family. We have Branch Out Forest School, children’s yoga and mindfulness along with Hula Hoop classes and swing dancing.
Our mission is for people to come and find a calming friendly and welcoming space to embrace the idea of looking after yourself and each other.
Challenges we face
For us, the biggest challenge is marketing the event and getting it noticed. We have all of these amazing activities happening at the festival and get great feedback, but frustratingly, we struggle to get the message out there!
My dream for the event is to make the event more accessible to everyone whilst being financially viable.
My advice to young women starting their careers
Definitely, follow your passion! Your passion is what keeps you going when it gets challenging. Be fair to other people, Care about what you do and come from a position of caring as opposed to business and making money. I think it keeps things genuine.
