Katie Oman – A Spiritual Awakening

9th July 2020

This blog is slightly different to most of our others, whilst we cover inspirations and career journey, Katie Oman talks about her spiritual awakening and finding fulfilment.

About me…..

I work as a writer, psychic and coach. To date I have written four books, including my latest Self-Love Pledge. Over the last ten years I have given hundreds of psychic readings to clients, using a combination of oracle cards, my own clairvoyant abilities and my life coaching skills. My focus is to uplift, inspire and motivate others, and I carry this through all the work I do. I am highly dedicated to helping others live truly happy lives. I also hold a degree in English and Drama, and I am a fully qualified teacher, which I believe will be invaluable assets for getting my messages out to others, as well as helping people to help themselves. I also utilise my teaching experience through my online courses, Connecting with the Angels and Psychic Development. My spare time is spent being a mum to my three children, and engaging in my love of creative pursuits.

A Spiritual Awakening is born out of tragedy

Before 2010 I was very lost. I didn’t know who I was, why I was here, or what I wanted to doing with my life. It didn’t help that I had incredibly low self-esteem, so I didn’t believe myself capable of really succeeding or deserving of being happy. In February 2010 we lost my grandparents in an arson attack on their flat. The shock and devastation of this was such that it literally put me on my knees. It was a time where I was in a permanent Dark Night of the Soul, and it proved to be one of the lowest moments of my life. In hindsight, I know now that Source breaks us down completely and destroys all of our false ideas so that we may be reborn into who we were always meant to be. As such, this tragedy kickstarted my spiritual awakening. The more I searched, the more I felt as though I had found the missing piece I had been searching for. For the first time in my life I felt as though I was whole and I was gaining the fulfillment I had been searching for. Shortly afterwards I was introduced to a friend of my mum’s- a psychic medium. The first words she ever said to me were, ‘You can do what I can do.’

In terms of my writing, I have had dreams of being a writer since I was a child, but I didn’t allow myself to go after them because I didn’t think I was good enough to. It was only when I found myself as a stay at home mum to my twins that I felt as though I owed it to myself to try. Once I started, it was such a wonderful feeling; as though I was doing the thing that I was always meant to be doing.

Side hustle to a successful business

Until 2018 I did this work as a sideline; a kind of hobby to make money when we needed it. Although I had helped people, I didn’t take my work seriously. If I told people that I was a psychic, I said it with an embarrassed laugh. Consequently, many people didn’t take it seriously either. But, in 2017 my husband and I separated and I found myself a single mum to my three children. The Universe had been sending me signs to commit to my work fulltime for a while, but I kept ignoring them; too scared to actually make the jump. Once I was on my own, I realised that the most financially secure way for me to go forward was to go self-employed. It was terrifying because I was so conscious of having three people dependent on me. My hands shook as I hovered over the registration button, but I took a deep breath and did it anyway. And it was the best thing I have ever done! Yes, there have been challenges along the way, as any self-employed person will share, but I love the work I do so much. It fits around the children and allows me to be my own boss and make my own decisions.

In terms of my writing, I have never received so many rejections in my life! If I didn’t love the actual process of writing itself, I know I would have given up by now. But I always saw the process as a sign to think outside the box and do it my way. This meant self-publishing my first two books, and not being afraid to try different publishers rather than sticking with what I thought I wanted. I was fixated on publishing with a certain big publisher for the longest time, but my fixed attitude meant I wasn’t moving forward at all. By allowing myself to be flexible I was able to move forward and get my books out to people who needed to read them.

Proud of my achievements

Getting my degree as a single mum, and self-publishing my first book were huge acheivements. I always believed that I wasn’t capable of achieving very much. I was bullied for years at school, and this took a huge toll on my self-esteem. When you’re told that you're stupid and worthless every day for four years, it’s hard for those messages not to become your truth. I had so many dreams in my head but I wouldn’t allow myself to reach for them for the longest time. When I finally accomplished these two amazing achievements it was a huge sign to myself and to everyone who ever doubted me that I can do whatever I set my mind to. I stopped being my biggest block, got out of my own way, and started believing in myself. I have also raised three amazing children whom I am immensely proud of.

Follow your passion rather than solely focusing on what job you’re going to do.

My Inspiration

Two things have driven me to forward: my mum as a role model and having my children. My mum is an incredible source of inspiration to me. She has never settled for less than she wants, and has always pushed to be the woman she knows she can be. She has been a self-employed businesswoman for years now- including buying a business at the age of 40, and she’s about to start a new business at the age of 64! She doesn’t let anything stop her.

Another huge inspiration has been the author Theresa Cheung. This is a woman who did not have the easiest of beginnings in life, and yet has gone on to write hundreds of books. She has written about many aspects of spirituality to give people hope and understanding, but she now also seeks to bring science and spirituality together to validate people’s beliefs with proof of their authenticity. She has championed many writers, speakers, healers and others whom she believes in, and has given them a platform so that more people my hear the powerful and positive messages they have to share. She has the biggest heart of anyone I’ve ever met and is so incredibly kind in everything she does. She inspires me everyday to always be true to myself, as well as letting love lead the way in everything that I do.

Our current location isn’t our final destination

Words of Wisdom

Everything will be okay in the end and, if it isn’t okay then it isn’t the end. Our current location isn’t our final destination, so don’t get too caught up in the issues that are happening around you. You have time to turn things around and make them better.

Believe in yourself. You are way more capable than you give yourself credit for. I know things have been difficult, but just because the bullies say things doesn’t mean their words are true. You have such amazing talents and the only thing really stopping you from achieving them is you. So let yourself try. It could be the best thing you’ve ever done.

You don’t have to do everything by yourself. In truth, you probably can’t anyway. We all have different strengths and abilities, and by ensuring you make the most of them from the people around you, you will end up with a fantastic team that works together well. A good leader doesn’t do everything herself, but seeks to get the best from people.

I’ve found that it really helps to find your tribe. Those people who believe in you when you can’t. Who support you in any way that they can. Who call you on your crap and have tough conversations with you because they love you. Yes, my setbacks showed me how strong and capable I really am, but that didn’t mean I could do it all on my own; or that I had to. Having people like my mum and my best friend who love me unconditionally and see my light, mean that I have the support to help me overcome any challenges.

And finally, don’t wait for opportunities to fall in your lap- go and create them yourself! It can be scary approaching potential employers and people who can help you, but the worst thing they can say is no. Every opportunity I have experienced so far has come about because I asked for them. Even when I received no, I don’t see it as a bad thing. I know it’s because something even better is on its way for me. Don’t wait for life to happen to you. Be the captain of your own ship and steer it where you want it to go.
